Intersection of three freeways secured using Permanent Soil Nails

The City of Reno is expanding rapidly like many other cities in the West Coast and the Nevada Department of Transportation is improving their freeway system. The intersection of three freeways, I-80, I-590 and US 395 are redesigned for easy access into and out of the city, with its shape resembling a spaghetti bowl. A 300 m long soil nail retaining wall with shotcrete and cast-in-place concrete was constructed along the I-80 freeway. The reliable DYWIDAG THREADBAR® double corrosion protection system was chosen by the designer.

Construction started at the end of 2002 and finished in the fall of 2003.
