Reinforcement

Connecting reinforcement with GEWl® reinforcing steel.

GEWl® reinforcing steel complies with the following specifications:

  • EMEA: B500B steel, in accordance with DIN 488

  • North America: ASTM A615

The rolled-on thread on both sides forms a left-hand thread along the entire bar length—providing excellent connecting reinforcement on challenging job sites.

The GEWl® System has been developed and optimized over time. A large range of products is now available for almost any kind of application.

GEWI reinforcement is used in

The GEWl® System offers distinct advantages in heavily reinforced structural elements where the distances between individual reinforcing bars can be problematic. It also achieves excellent results in the end anchorage area.

The anchor lengths of reinforcing bars can be reduced to a minimum using anchor pieces and plate anchorages—significantly reducing the amount of steel and concrete needed.

How the GEWI systems work

The coarse and extremely robust GEWl® Thread means that GEWl® Threadbars and nuts are designed for on-site use—and work, even when extremely dirty.

Connection of reinforcing bars with normal ribs

The extruded coupler splice, the rebar connector system, was developed for realizing reinforcing connections in large numbers—or in conditions with very limited space.

When realizing a rebar connector coupler splice, two reinforcing bars are connected by extruding a coupler that has been placed onto both ends of the reinforcing bars.

The extrusion process for rebar connector systems

A high amount of pressure is used to push the reducing ring over the coupler. The reducing ring significantly reduces the exterior diameter of the coupler, creating a force-fit connection between rebar and coupler.

Both reinforcing steels with normal deformations and GEWl® reinforcing steel Threadbars can be spliced using the rebar connector system—meaning reinforcing bars that have already been installed can be coupled to a GEWl® connecting bar with ease.

The rebar connector system is also suitable for many similar reinforcing steel bars like the Austrian ARI and ARI-G, and suitability tests can be performed for special applications.

The corresponding extruding equipment has been kept slim to ensure an economical realization of the connections in minimal space— and in areas with tight reinforcement layers. Up to 30 connections per hour are possible—if installation is done professionally by trained personnel.
